Mapping Network Drives for Faculty/Staff

How do I map a drive when I’m not on the computer in my office?

If you are working on a computer where your Mapped Drives folder hasn’t been set up, you can still access those drives by directly accessing them in File Explorer. Here are the steps to follow:

1. Make a note of the drives mapped in your Mapped Drives folder on your primary office computer. The name of the server is in parenthesis after the share name.

2. On the other computer, open File Explorer. It’s usually on your task bar at the bottom of the screen, or you can type it in the search bar to bring up the application.

3. In place of “Quick access”, type the server name and share name as follows (see second image below) - \\server\share

Replace “Quick access” with the sever name that you want to view -\\share\server

4. You should now see all the files and folders that you have access to on that shared drive.
